Not that unexpected, the EPL got 10 of the final 16 spots in the Carling Cup matches. The surprise is who got in and who didn't.
- Shocker of the round had to go to Liverpool losing a match in penalties at home to Northampton Town. That was followed closely by Chelsea's exit due to Newcastle and Man City's loss to West Brom.
- Most expected outcome had to be Manchester United toying with home team Scunthorpe. Even though Scunthorpe was ahead for about 4 minutes, the game was never in doubt and the Red Devils took control and cruised to the victory.
- Favorite for the cup has to fall to the Gunners of Arsenal. They have an excellent young side and have the players on the 1st team that could step in an take the cup home if need be. 2nd favorite have to be the Red Devils of Man U. They are playing great ball right now and Michael Owen showed that he still has a gallon of two left in his gas tank.
- Underdog of the round of 16 has to be League 2 side Northampton Town. The fact that they have made it to the round of 16 is amazing enough much less defeating the Reds of Liverpool for that spot. Who knows, maybe a break in the draw for round 4 and Northampton could make that march madness Cinderella run we see in college basketball.
