After scans revealed Tevez's thigh injury would keep him out for around two weeks, City boss Roberto Mancini saw an opportunity to allow Tevez to spend time at home while he recovers.
Tevez's team-mate Roque Santa Cruz said this week Tevez was homesick and missing his children, who live in Argentina, so the theory is the striker will come back refreshed and happy early next week. He is expected to undertake an intense rehabilitation schedule while he is away to boost his chances of recovering in time for the November 10 Manchester derby.
Tevez is all but certain to miss City's upcoming Premier League matches against Wolves and West Brom as well as their Europa League fixture against Lech Poznan next week. The return of Mario Balotelli from injury and the form of Emmanuel Adebayor, who scored a hat-trick in Europe last week, should help ease City's striking woes but Mancini will be desperate to have Tevez back to face United since the City captain has scored three goals against Sir Alex Ferguson's men since leaving Old Trafford for Eastlands.
Mancini was keen to rest Tevez in upcoming matches anyway since his skipper has been playing out almost every match as a lone striker in the absence of injured team-mates. He limped off in the second half against Arsenal but it was initially thought he had a dead leg and would not miss any matches. He has scored seven goals in nine Premier League matches this season.
