Will Charlie Adam stay?

Ian Holloway is convinced captain Charlie Adam will remain fully committed to the Blackpool cause despite being a transfer target for other clubs.

Blackpool rejected offers from both Aston Villa and Birmingham for Adam, and Holloway insists the 25-year-old Scotland midfielder can only leave if one of the Premier League's biggest clubs make a substantial bid.

Villa and Birmingham are reported to have offered around £2.5 million for Adam, who has 18 months remaining on his Bloomfield Road contract.

Holloway, who discussed the situation with Adam on Monday morning, said: "Charlie is in a great place where he is shining and looking good. He is playing the type of football that suits him and the crowd love him.

"He should be on the crest of a wave and he should continue that because that is what his job is, and he will - but I will give him some honesty and fairness.

"We will talk about all the offers and I will probably tell him why he won't be going, but if it is one of the clubs I wrote down this morning I will probably have to consider it because I would want him to shine at those places."

Adam joined Blackpool in a £500,000 deal from Rangers last season and proved the inspiration for the club's surprise charge to promotion to the Premier League.

Holloway is not surprised by the interest in him but has stressed the Seasiders, who have made a huge impact back in the top flight, are under no pressure to sell players.

He said: "There always will be interest in Charlie, he is a good player. We have got a lot of good players but Charlie gets the plaudits.

"I spoke to Charlie this morning and he knows where I am coming from, and I know where he is coming from. The chairman has had a couple of calls and he has told those clubs exactly where we are.

"We have got no reason to sell anyone. We are a well-run club and we want to add in this window, not lose anyone."

Adam was linked with a move earlier this season during a contract dispute with Blackpool over an unpaid bonus. The player successfully argued he was due a bonus after promotion but the Premier League ruled, crucially, Blackpool had not breached his contract.

A different verdict on the latter point could have seen Adam cancel his contract and leave for another club as a free agent.

Holloway, speaking at a press conference to preview Wednesday's rearranged game against Liverpool, said: "At the end of day it will probably be another storm in a teacup, like it was when he was going to leave and be out of contract.

"That was a waste of time. You all got excited but it fizzled out and ended up being nothing."

Holloway has failed in his attempts to sign former Manchester City forward Bradley Wright-Phillips from Plymouth.

He said: "I lost a target yesterday. Bradley-Wright Phillips is signing for Reading but such is life. We will have another look."
