EPL Weekly Rankings

Weekly Rankings for the EPL Week 5.
  1. Chelsea--- 15 points.  Still dominating every side they face with easy wins in the first 5 matches of the season.
  2. Arsenal--- 11 points.  Have been able to find the scoring without Theo Walcott in the lineup so far.
  3. Man U--- 11 points.  Dimitar Berbatov has been the player of the season so far after his hat trick versus Liverpool.
  4. Man City--- 8 points.  Still in a good position after a season that started with the bad effort versus Tottenham.  Face powerhouse Chelsea saturday with only 3 fully healthy defenders.
  5. Tottenham--- 8 points.  With injuries mounting, the Spurs will depend on players such as Gareth Bale to keep them in the top 5.
  6. Newcastle--- 7 points.  Get an extra day of rest in a busy week before they have to play the suddenly viable Stoke sunday.
  7. Fulham--- 7 points.  Losing Bobby Zamora will be a hard loss to overcome but Clint Dempsey has already shown his scoring touch and will look to beat national teammate Tim Howard saturday.
  8. Aston Villa--- 7 points.  Still in the top 10 after the tumultous beginning to the season, Villa gets their new manager finally on the sidelines.
  9. Blackpool--- 7 points.  After being written off during the summer, after the 6-0 loss to Arsenal, and after a quick flameout in the Carling Cup, Blackpool keeps fighting and pulling out points to stay in the top ten.
  10. West Brom--- 7 points.  A game that would normally be written off as a loss looks more pormising for West Brom playing an Arsenal squad without Fabregas and Walcott.
  11. Sunderland--- 6 points.  Fans are impatient for the striker combo of Gyan and Bent to become one of the most electric in the EPL.
  12. Birmingham--- 6 points.  Craig Gardner and crew get a favorable matchup versus inept Wigan and should be able to challenge for the top ten with three points saturday.
  13. Bolton--- 6 points.  Getting points in four of the first 5 matches is the good news.  The bad news is a sunday matchup with the Flying Berbatovs of Manchester United.
  14. Blackburn--- 5 points.  With a disappointing start to the season, the Rovers have a chance to start a good streak playing a very winnable game versus Blackpool staurday.
  15. Wolverhampton--- 5 points.  From the penthouse to the outhouse.  The Wolves had a chance of drawing with Tottenham or even winning but gave up late goals losing the game and tumbling down the standings like an avalanche of mediocrity.
  16. Liverpool--- 5 points.  It is allowed in soccer to mark a man that has been the offense for Man United.  Amazing goal, but how does Berbatov get that eternity in the penalty area to handle the ball and make the shot with no one bothering to check him.
  17. Stoke--- 4 points.  My pick for the move up team of the week, Stoke was very unlucky not to get 3 points from that match versus West Brom.  Still, pick the pace up so that I dont look like an idiot for the position I picked for Stoke.
  18. Wigan--- 4 points.  ESPN on line one for Roberto Martinez for studio work once he is canned for allowing Wigan to be relegated.
  19. Everton--- 2 points.  Their ineptness has rivaled what everyone was expecting out of Blackpool this season.  If not for Tim Howard's great saves versus Man U, Everton would be staring 20th place right in the face.
  20. West Ham--- 1 point.  Clearly the worst team in the EPL so far this season, West Ham played their best half of the season leading Stoke 1-0 at the half.  Too bad it took approximately 3 minutes for all that good play to be erased.  They were more than lucky to get out of the second half with a draw and their first point of the season.  Only 14 points behind Chelsea 5 weeks into the season, Congrats Hammers.
