Manchester United was able to exercise demons by winning a match in Spain for the first time in more than 8 years with the slick play by second half substitutes Macheda and Hernandez. Both players were brought in during the last 15 minutes of play hoping to spark a Red Devils attack that has sputtered so far in the matches.
The teams combined for 3 total shots on goal with Man U getting two of them. Man U was severely outplayed by the top team in SPL tables but Valencia was unable to mount a serious scoring chance. Valencia led the time of posession and corners taken but were missing that finishing touch that was so prevalant in the opening match.
Hernandez has been getting spotty play over the opening weeks with Man U but he seems to be more productive and give that spark to the squad when coming in as a second half substitution. Maybe that is the role he will play for the Red Devils for the rest of the season. Let Berbatov and Rooney wear them down then bring in Hernandez to go for the kill.
The win moves Man U into a tie for first with the Rangers who put away Turkish squad Bursaspor 1-0. Up next for the Devils is a must win versus Bursaspor who have lost both matches so far in the Champions League. Valencia will get the opportunity to play the Rangers and get back into winning ways.
Scoring Summary:
Javier Hernandez 85'
